  • A friend flew into town Wednesday night and is staying with me this weekend.  He moved away from Miami about a year ago and now wants to come back here to live, so of course he picks the week before I move to fly down to look for work.  (He’s now hopeful he can get my job, but my bosses return Wed. and he flies out Th., so the timing is not ideal.)  He’d been talking about doing this for months, and I said “any time before September is fine.”  I’m a little stressed out with flying out next Sunday–all that’s left to do–so I’m not really in the mood to host someone without a car who can’t drive a stick-shift car like the one I now have.  So, yeah, posting on Xanga just hasn’t happened.

Oh, did I mention my mom just had her fourth heart cath in three years yesterday?  She had about an 80% block as I understand it.  She’s supposed to go home today.  We’ll have to wait and see if surgery is still needed.

The happy news is that my request to transfer within the company (my current employer) was approved, so I now have a job waiting for me in L.A. starting 10/2.  I’ll have a week to find a car out there and get settled, so things are shaping up with beautiful simplicity so far.  Now if I can just get rid of a lot of stuff in a short time…

  • ok…

My computer issues seem to be resolved again.  I expect to be online tonight catching up on Xanga.

Just as I was ready to leave the family the other day, mom’s heart dr. called with bad news from the latest test.  She’s going to have another cath done tomorrow. Added to preparations to move 3,000 miles, I’ve been a bit distracted.

Profuse apologies to my blogring pals.  I will try to finish my post that I started last week and get it up by Sat.  Tonight, I hope to check out what you’ve been doing.

Also, work is insane since both my bosses are gone.  Some of the mice play too much when they’re around.  Just imagine…

Time to walk a bit before my lunch hour slips away.  Hope to “see” some of you tonight.

  • Things did not go as planned over the holiday weekend, but I did get home about midnight last night.  Now I’m unpacking, cleaning, etc.  Glad to have the rest of the week off from work and my own bed to sleep in again.  Thanks to all who stopped by.  I’ll be around to visit after I finally eat lunch…

  • Ironies….

I’m driving to Jacksonville today to visit all my immediate family except my brother, who is celebrating his birthday in Ohio.

I hate moving and yet I seem to do it every 2 years or so.

It’s a beautiful day to travel, and yet I don’t really want to go.

I guess I’ll get home late Tuesday night and may skip around Xanga a bit then.  If I don’t “see” you between now and then, enjoy the holiday weekend.

  • I gave my notice at work yesterday.  My last day will be 9/22, and I plan to fly to LA on Sun. 9/24, leaving Sat. for sendoff parties and such.  It felt good to do that.

Driving home tonight was like driving through a ghost town.  Odd after the roads were so crowded this a.m. with everyone trying to get gas.  Every intersection was blocked by the spillover lines to the pumps.  Last night, too.  What a mess.  Thankfully, it looks like Ernesto will not get back up to hurricane strength, though it is aiming at my condo.  We’ve been getting steady rain for the last hour and expect up to 10 inches or more overnight.  I’m sure there will be flood waters to deal with in the a.m.  The only way I get out of work is if they issue a hurricane warning, which grows increasingly unlikely.

Time to hunt dinner.  I will get creative again soon, but I’m going to visit family Sat.-Tues, so it will have to be in the next couple of days or into next week.  You who are in my blogring, take heart–I haven’t forgotten you.    Wildcane out…

Days to life in LA:  26

August 27, 2006

  • What a weekend.  Friday after work I had a nice dinner with friends and got home late.  Saturday I got up early to clean, then load furniture onto a truck in preparation for friends painting the condo where I live.  I went for food, helped move things around as needed, and watched an “Energizer bunny” boy for about two hours.  Then I cleaned up and went to a dinner party, where I hung out past 1 a.m.  Sunday I woke up at 7, took care of some email, then spent four hours doing yardwork for the friends who had just moved.  Now I’m home, though most of the energy in me has been bled out of me.  I doubt I’ll post anything creative later today, but we’ll see how I feel after a shower and food.

Hope you all had good weekends.  I’ll be around to check on you over the next day or two.  BTW, I fly to LA 9/24 to start anew….

  • I’m listening to the Eagles and wondering where the week went.  Normally, I’d push aside everything else after three days and post something of substance…

…but tonight I just want to listen to the Eagles.  Not enough harmony in my life lately, ya know?  Please pardon the wildcane for days of dullness and check back in a day or two for a WiW.
