  • Did I mention I finally bought contacts again right before moving to LA?  It’s been good to shed the glasses, but what an ordeal.  Fitted twice (second much better) and about $500 later, I’m pretty happy about the end result (bank account notwithstanding).  Then this morning, I opened a new box and put both lenses in only to have mild discomfort in my left eye.  I removed the lens, which was apparently torn and quickly fell in two in my hand.  I have no idea if they’ll charge me to replace it.  The way things have been going, I’d guess yes.

Still no digicam, but roommate has one he has yet to use.  Maybe soon I’ll borrow it and get some new pics up.  I bought a nice printer/scanner combo, but most of the pics I wanted to scan are still in boxes stored in Miami.  Such is the fun state of affairs here at Wildcane Central.

Off for my midday walk before lunch hour is up…

  • Over the weekend, I found a much-needed two-drawer dresser at the Salvation Army for $6.25.  It’s big enough to sit my huge printer on (instead of the floor), killing two birds with one stone as hoped.  Sadly, that’s the best thing to happen to me in a week.  Halloween?  I think I’ll find a way to skip that this year.

Apologies to my blogring companions.  Next week, I’ll get back to you.

  • Random quote:

He prayeth best, who loveth best
    All things both great and small;
For the dear God who loveth us,
    He made and loveth all.

  • FIVE KEYS TO A FULL LIFE

    1.  Learning to love completely is everything.

    2.  Real growth comes when you focus on the process instead of the results.

    3.  True love is not just a triggered emotional response; it’s a release of God’s character.

    4.  The truest, deepest kind of love is activated through suffering and surrender.

    5.  Remember/believe that love never fails.

    Discussion?

  • MOVING INVENTORY

Major things I’ve done so far (random order):

     1.  Found and bought a black 2001 Corolla (stick) with 75,000 miles
     2.  Haggled through to the purchase of car insurance
     3.  Bought a desk and a lamp for my lightless room
     4.  Bought an all-in-one printer on sale
     5.  Turned an empty desk at work into a productive work space
     6.  Bought kitchen stuff
     7.  Bought bathroom stuff
     8.  Found a great eye center a few blocks from home and ordered new contacs
     9.  Found a branch library with wireless internet a few blocks from home
    10. Bought and assembled a loft bed (but I want those three days back!)
    11. Attended my first writer’s dinner/meeting
    12. Attended my first housewarming
    13. Attended my first movie (The Departed), a $10.50 matinee
    14. Worked through a week of reports while my new boss is in Ireland
    15. Learned to cope without hot water.

Major things I still have to do:

     1.  Ship boxes from Miami to LA
     2.  Figure out how to get wireless internet through my router to my IBM laptop from a Mac
     3.  Find/replace my SS card and get a California license
     4.  Notify dozens of people of my new address, phone, etc.
     5.  Complete the bank loan process for the car
     6.  Buy a two-drawer dresser/printer stand
     7.  Buy closet organizers/storage thingamabobs
     8.  Pay a ton of bills by the first of October (about 11 days ago by my count)
     9.  Get a 2nd job to pay off everything
    10. Start sleeping regularly again

I’ll quit there, while my done list is still longer than my to do list.  I’m not sure I feel any better, but at least this is more than a two-line post.  If you hear a loud thud, it’s me falling through my new loft bed…

  • Work is very good, a huge improvement actually.  The house is still a mess…

  • I survived moving from Miami to LA.  No internet or hot water at home.  I’m a little too busy to post real content this week.  I start work Monday…

  • I’ve been a bad Xangan, I know.  I know.  I have about three days’ worth of stuff to do before I leave Miami and settle in L.A.  Unfortunately, my flight leaves tomorrow.  I’m in over my head, folks, and will not have internet until at least next Th. at my new place.  Plus, I won’t be working next week, so you likely won’t see me online in any form.  If you’re the praying sort, I’m currently at “low tide.”  See you in a week or so, Lord willing.
